Common faults
What your fridge is telling you
Most fridges give warning signs before they stop completely. These are the ones we see most in Dubai kitchens, and what usually sits behind them.
Water pooling under the salad drawers
Defrost water leaves through a small drain at the back. When it blocks with ice or food debris, the water backs up into the bottom of the fridge instead of the tray underneath.
Ice building up on the back wall
A thick sheet of ice on the rear panel points to a defrost fault: a heater, sensor or timer that no longer clears the frost. Chipping it off buys a week or two.
Running all the time
Dusty condenser coils, a split door seal or a fridge squeezed into a hot corner all make the compressor work without a break. Left alone, that shortens its life.
Clicking, then nothing
A click every few minutes with no hum usually means the compressor is trying to start and failing. The start relay is often the cause, and it is one of the cheaper parts on the machine.
Not cooling at all
The light works but nothing is cold. This can be the control board, thermostat, compressor or a refrigerant leak. It is the one fault you should not let anyone guess at.

Why fridges wear out sooner here
A fridge is a machine that moves heat out of a box. The hotter the room around it, the harder it has to work.
It lives somewhere hot
Fridges on balconies, in utility rooms or next to an oven sit in air far warmer than they were built for. Check the climate class on the rating plate. A class T fridge is designed for hot rooms. Many others are not.
The condenser is clogged
The coils underneath or behind the fridge give off the heat. Sand and dust coat them over time, the heat stays in, and the compressor runs longer every day. We clean them on every visit.
The door seal has hardened
Rubber seals dry out and crack in the heat. A gap you cannot see lets warm, humid air in, which turns into frost in the freezer and extra work for the compressor.
Power cuts and surges
When the power drops and comes straight back, the compressor restarts under load. Repeated hard starts wear out the relay and, in time, the compressor itself.
It is packed too tight
Food pushed against the rear vents blocks the cold air coming down from the freezer. The fridge warms up even though nothing is broken.

The sticker inside the door has the model number. A photo of it and a line about the problem lets us bring the likely parts on the first visit.

We measure temperatures and check the fans, the defrost system and the compressor to find the actual cause.

You get the fault and the price before any work starts. If the fridge is not worth repairing, we say so.

Before you pay for gas
A gas top-up is not a repair
The most common quote for a warm fridge is a refrigerant refill. It works for a while, because gas has been leaking out and new gas replaces it. Then it leaks out again.
Top up and leave
- Gas refilled without looking for the leak.
- Cools for weeks or months, then warms again.
- You pay for the same gas twice.
- The compressor runs short of gas in between.
Find the leak first
- Pressure tested to locate the leak.
- Leak repaired, or you are told it cannot be.
- Charged to the right amount, once.
- If it is not worth fixing, you hear that before paying.

Fridge repair questions
Many fridge repairs in Dubai are done on the same day, especially when you book in the morning and send the model number. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you how long it will take before we leave.
It depends on the fault. A fan, relay, thermostat or door seal is usually worth fixing at any age. A failed compressor on an older fridge often is not. We give you the repair price so you can compare it with a new unit.

Keep the doors closed as much as you can. A full freezer holds its temperature for several hours if it stays shut. Move anything that spoils quickly to a cool box or another fridge.
Defrosting will often get it cooling again for a while, and that is a useful clue. If the ice comes back within a week or two, the defrost system has a fault that needs repairing.
