Most faults show a clear sign before the machine stops completely. These are the ones we are called for most in Dubai homes.
Leaking onto the floor
Most leaks come from a torn door seal, a loose inlet hose or a cracked detergent drawer. Water under a machine can damage the floor and the flat below, so it is worth finding quickly.
Loud banging on spin
A drum that thumps or roars on the spin usually means worn bearings or broken suspension. Left alone, the drum can start damaging the outer tub.
Will not spin
Clothes come out soaking. The cause can be a worn motor, a faulty door lock, a drainage problem or simply an unbalanced load.
Door will not lock or open
The door lock stops the machine starting until it is closed safely. When it fails, the machine will not start or will not release the door at the end.
Bad smell or black marks
Detergent residue and damp inside the door seal and drawer grow mould. Cleaning helps, but a badly marked seal needs replacing.

What shortens a washing machine's life
Most machines do not simply wear out. They are worn down by the same few habits and conditions.
The pump filter is never cleaned
Most machines have a small filter behind a flap at the bottom front. Cleaning it every month or two prevents most drainage faults.
The drum is packed too full
An overloaded drum strains the bearings and motor on every spin. Leaving a hand's width of space at the top protects both.
Too much detergent
Extra powder or liquid does not wash better. It leaves residue that clogs the drawer, feeds mould and can cause drainage faults.
No room to move
Machines squeezed into cupboards or small balconies knock against walls on the spin. A little space around the machine reduces wear.
It is not level
A machine that rocks on uneven feet shakes itself apart on the spin. Adjusting the feet takes minutes.
